This course takes you through the Tier 2 mandatory training in Autism Awareness Training which has been a CQC requirement since July 2022.
Outcome:
To ensure staff working in dental care receive autism training, at the right level for their role to promote the best outcomes for patients and their families.
Aims:
To enable you to recognise autism, understand how it affects communication and learning, and apply reasonable adjustments and supportive strategies resulting in better services and improved health, wellbeing and clinical outcomes.
Learning objectives

Look at the requirements of the Oliver McGowan Tier 2 mandatory training to better serve our neurodiverse patients.

Explore what autism is and isn’t; common strengths and challenges and explore how autistic people might communicate and process sensory information.

Explore ways to interact appropriately with our neurodiverse patients, understanding their experiences and needs for better outcomes.

Develop practical communication, environment and daily support tips.

Develop strategies for de-escalation and safe, respectful handling of challenging situations

Discuss how to have an individual approach and manage uncertainty and anxiety

Explore clinical outcomes after adopting these strategies and reflect on the pathway and process.
