Looking to enhance your natural beauty? Subtle lip fillers could be right for you.
Considering lip fillers can be an exciting adjustment, but it’s completely natural to feel a little unsure about what to expect. At Hartog Dental, we’ve had the privilege of helping many patients enhance their lips in a way that feels subtle, balanced, and beautifully natural — and often boosting confidence beyond the treatment itself.
Understanding how to prepare for lip fillers plays a key role in achieving comfortable treatment, a smooth recovery and results that truly suit you. Whether you’re looking to restore volume, refine the shape, add hydration or simply improve their overall appearance, preparation helps ensure the experience feels calm, from start to finish.
At Hartog Dental, every lip filler treatment is carefully tailored to your age, facial structure and personal goals, because no two faces (or lips) are ever the same.
A Calm, Personal Approach to Lip Fillers at Hartog
Lip fillers at Hartog Dental are led by multi-award-winning facial aesthetic dentist Dr Emily Stanworth, whose intimate knowledge of head and neck anatomy ensures treatments are delivered with precision, safety and attention to detail.
Our philosophy is simple: lip filler should enhance your natural beauty and complement your features, not compete with them. That’s why our approach focuses on balance, proportion and harmony with the rest of your face.
What Are Lip Fillers?
Using hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers, lip fillers are designed to gently plump the lips, enhancing fullness and shape. This substance is naturally found throughout the body, making it an excellent choice for creating youthful and natural-looking results.
They’re a great, non-surgical solution to achieving your desired look, safely. When expertly administered, lip fillers can:
- Restore volume lost with age
- Improve lip symmetry and definition
- Enhance hydration for softer lips
- Smooth wrinkles
- Create a refreshed, youthful appearance
- Boost confidence and self-esteem
The key lies in careful assessment and a personalised treatment plan, which is something we prioritise at every Hartog Dental consultation.
Weeks Before Your Appointment: How to Prepare for Lip Fillers
Preparation starts well before the day of your appointment.
Book a personalised consultation
Your consultation is an essential part of your journey. This is where we:
- Discuss your goals and expectations
- Assess your facial structure and lip anatomy
- Review your medical history and suitability for treatment
Honest conversations lead to the most natural and satisfying outcomes for you and your personal goals.
Days Before Your Lip Filler Appointment
A few days beforehand, it’s important to reduce the risk of bruising and swelling. We generally recommend:
- Avoid drinking alcohol for 48 hours before the appointment, as this helps to reduce bruising
- Avoid smoking and limit caffeine for 24–48 hours prior
- Drink plenty of water
Small lifestyle choices can have a positive impact on recovery and results.
On the Day of Your Appointment
Arriving prepared can help you feel more relaxed, confident and truly ready for the procedure.
Clean, makeup-free skin
We recommend that you arrive without makeup on, just clean skin and lips. This helps reduce the risk of infection.
Your treatment experience
Your appointment begins with a final review of your goals and expectations. The procedure itself takes around 30–45 minutes. We make this process as comfortable as possible with the use of numbing cream. As dental experts, we can also provide our patients with dental blocks, a local anaesthesia injection used to numb areas of the mouth, for a completely pain-free experience.
Patients are often pleasantly surprised by how quick the procedure is!
Results will be visible immediately, with lips continuing to settle over the following days.
What to Expect After Lip Fillers
It’s completely normal to experience:
- Mild swelling
- Tenderness
- Mild bruising may occur; we will provide you with arnica cream for a speedy recovery. Some patients won’t bruise at all if a cannula is used.
These effects will typically subside within 24–48 hours. Our experienced team is always on hand should you have any questions or concerns during your recovery.
Lip Filler Aftercare & Recovery
We will provide you with detailed, personalised aftercare instructions, but general advice includes:
- You can apply an ice pack for up to 10 minutes to reduce any swelling
- Avoid drinking alcohol for 24 hours after treatment to prevent bruising
- Apply the arnica cream provided. This will help to ensure a seamless recovery
- Avoid wearing lipstick, lip balm or other lip product for at least the first 24 hours
- Try to avoid touching your lips
- Stay well hydrated by drinking plenty of water
Following our aftercare guidance helps ensure the best outcome possible and a smooth, comfortable recovery.
Reassurance: Safety, Comfort, and Natural Results
One of the biggest concerns patients share is whether lip fillers will look unnatural or feel uncomfortable. At Hartog Dental, we want to give you the confidence to smile, speak and laugh with ease, uplifting your features while still looking unmistakably like yourself
With years of expert anatomical knowledge, high-quality products and a considered approach, we create results that make you look refreshed. Most patients describe their lips as feeling soft, natural, and perfectly in proportion to their face.
Recovery is typically short, and results continue to soften and settle beautifully over time.
Confidence Starts with Preparation
Knowing how to prepare for lip fillers allows you to approach your treatment feeling calm, informed, and confident. With expert care, personalised planning, and thoughtful aftercare, lip fillers can be a safe, effective way to enhance your natural beauty.
